More taxes to hit motorists

July 2nd, 2008

Westminster MPs are set to vote on another tax that will hit the UK motorist hard. Some motorists could be taxed off the road with this latest levy. The UK Government want to cut CO2 emissions but this tax is to include cars that were produced in 2001.

So what about those families that cannot afford to change to a greener car - what are they to do - is it a pay up and shut up tax? The Government needs to think on how this new tax will hit them, already hit with high energy prices  many families are making cut backs on food and household goods as they need their car to get to work -  Can they deal with yet another tax on the motorist?

Some 69 MPs are urging ministers to reconsider the retrospective tax rise.

The motion is set to be voted on at 18.00BST and make sure you log back as we will cover the result in our news section.

Spyshots

March 17th, 2008

vauxhallinsigniaspyshottitle_2001.jpgToday we at IMN received our first spyshots in the guise of the new Vauxhall Insignia - this is the replacement for the Vectra.
Some of you may like them - some may not but spyshots are always interesting as they give an indication on what designs the maker’s are going to go for next.
We at IMN look forward to seeing the Vauxhall Insignia in the flesh when it’s unveiled by the griffin badged marque in London at the British Motorshow in July.

Detroit Motorshow

January 17th, 2008

The age of the green supercar?

The Detroit Motorshow has thrown up the green issue again. But you’d be surprised what manufacturers are taking this to heart – it’s the luxury supercar makers.
Yes that’s right – Ferrari unveiled the 430 Biofuel and Audi took the covers off the R8 Diesel, while 4×4 specialist Land Rover took the wraps off the LRX Concept. It’s got a 2.0-litre diesel hybrid under the bonnet and should emit 120g/kg of CO2 according to the manufacturer.
Chrysler has jumped on the green bandwagon as well, it unveiled three eco friendly concepts – the new Jeep Renegade, Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept, and the Dodge ZEO Concept.
All these models are in the concept guise but we at IMN believe that the Ferrari 430 Biofuel and the Audi R8 Diesel could be a reality in less than three years.
Is this what the car industry needs? Is it time that supercars went green?
